The ignITe Hub is launching a monthly Fireside Chat Career Series. Each month, we will host a trailblazing guest speaker to explore their unique tech career path. We will learn what sparked their interest in this area, meaningful experiences that impacted their journey and career advice for aspiring techies.

Our featured guest speaker is Dr. Shinta Hernandez, Ph.D., Dean for the Virtual Campus at Montgomery College who will share her experiences as a higher education professional and an advocate to advance the work of open educational resources and open pedagogy, social justice and equity, inclusive curriculum, faculty professional development, international collaborations, and online education and the social science disciplines.

She currently serves as Vice President of Professional Development on the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources (CCCOER) Executive Council. She is the co-founder of the global award-winning United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Open Pedagogy Fellowship, which has grown to more than 10 institutional partners across North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Asia.

Dr. Hernandez has her B.A. degree in Psychology from Brandeis University, M.P.P. degree in Social Policy from Georgetown University, and Ph.D. degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland College Park. She was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching and Advising from Montgomery College in 2017 and the Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) in 2018.
