Description
The ignITe Hub hosts a monthly Future of Tech Lunch & Learn Series. Each month, we will have a cutting-edge guest speaker to explore an innovative area in the world of technology. Topics will range from BioTech to Entertainment Technology and beyond. We will learn from notable industry experts about a specific type of technology, how this technology is being used to solve a community problem and what are unique career pathways related to this field. Thank you to Verizon for their generous sponsorship of this series.
Our featured guest speaker is Norman Singer, Cybersecurity Lab Program Manager at Montgomery College. He has over 30 years of experience in the IT and computer programming industries specializing in interface design. Having worked for both large corporations and start-ups, Norman combined his interest in cooking with his experience in design and 3D printing to design his revolutionary chef’s knife.
While preparing food for a large dinner party that his family hosted, Norman suffered from a large blister and other repetitive motion injuries despite using a $200 name brand chef’s knife. His insights into design resulted in 13 US patents for the chef’s knife (2 utility patents, 11 design patents). He uses 3D printing for rapid prototyping as well as driving down development costs.
